Dr. Daniel Hoekema

Dr. Daniel Hoekema

Dr. Hoekema is a graduate of Calvin College; attended Michigan State University as a graduate student in animal behavior; and graduated from M.S.U. College of Veterinary Medicine in 1973 with a D.V.M. degree. He worked for a busy small animal practice in Dearborn, MI from 1973 to 1980. He then purchased a small animal veterinary practice in northwest Grand Rapids in 1980 and renamed it Westwood Hills Animal Hospital. In January 1999, a new state-of-the-art animal hospital was built and relocated to the new building at 3242 Leonard NW. A thorough history and physical exam of your pet are very important to him since they are an intergral part in the diagnosis and treatment of your pet. Dr. Hoekema has been involved in all aspects of small animal veterinary medicine including surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, orthopedics, dermatology, radiography, pharmacology, diagnostics, infectious disease, and preventative care. His 35 plus years of clinical experience has exposed him to a wide variety of conditions and diseases in dogs and cats. He and the staff are always willing to discuss options of care for your pet, depending on the financial resources available to the owner. He strives to stay current on therapies and medications through seminars and readings. He lives with his wife of 39 years and 2 dogs, Willie and Taco. His interests include gardening, politics, current events, and traveling. Oh yes, his blood runs green for the M.S.U. Spartans. Go Green!
