We want your pet to enjoy a healthy and happy life with you! Our doctors and staff are focused on preventative wellness care for your pet and we offer the continuity of care by having 24 hour emergency care and specialty veterinary services in addition to our wellness care services.

We work as a team to insure that your pet is receiving the best of care whether with routine yearly exams, vaccines, and tests or in the event of a crisis. Our services include cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, dermatology, surgery, avian and exotic medicine, canine rehabilitation, and boarding in addition to general and primary care services such as vaccines, spay, neuter and routine and advanced dentistry. We care for various pets including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, iguanas, snakes, hedgehogs, turtles, and freshwater fish just to name a few.

We have the necessary diagnostic equipment including magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound and digital radiography to help us detect the route of the problem and we perform various surgical procedures including Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy. We also offer various pre-breeding screenings including canine eye registration foundation exams, brainstem auditory evoked response tests, orthopedic foundation for animals certification, and cardiac clearance in addition to your traveling needs with International Health Certificates!

Michael Bernstein

Veterinary Specialist
Board Certification: American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine
Veterinary School: Cornell University

Dr. Michael Bernstein joined the staff at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in 2004. He obtained his DVM degree from The New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University in 1971, and then completed an internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. After his internship, he joined the staff at Angell, where he became Director of Clinics in 1974 and Department Head of Medicine in 1987. He also held appointments as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine from 1976 until 1981, and as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine from 1981 until 1997.Dr. Bernstein became Board Certified in Internal Medicine by The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1981. Over the years, he has contributed to many publications, and has been an invited lecturer at numerous continuing education seminars, both nationally and internationally.

In addition to over 34 years of experience as a small animal internist, Dr. Bernstein brings with him significant expertise in hospital management. He has a special interest in feline medicine and is available to see referral appointments.

Amanda Duffy

Dr. Amanda Duffy graduated from Texas A & M University, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences in 2005. Following graduation, she completed a year long rotating medicine and surgery internship at our animal hospital followed by a specialty surgery internship at VCA Veterinary Specialists of Northern Colorado. She then completed a 3 year residency program in emergency medicine and critical care at Colorado State University and rejoined our staff in October of 2010. Dr. Duffy is board certified in emergency medicine and critical care by the American College of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care and has a special interest in anesthesia and pain management.

Angela Girello

Associate Veterinarian
Veterinary School: University of Florida

Dr. Angela Girello was born and raised in South Florida. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science in 2000 from the University of Florida, and in 2005 she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to the Boston area in 2005 (with her 2 dogs and 2 cats) where she completed a 1-year medicine and surgical internship at VCA South Shore. After her internship, Dr. Girello remained on our staff as an emergency clinician and general practitioner.

In her free time you can find Dr. Girello cheering for her Florida alma mater. She also enjoys outdoor activities such as scuba diving, jogging, bike riding, and is learning to surf and snow-board.

Angelyn Cornetta

Dr. Angelyn Cornetta graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. She did an internship in small animal medicine and surgery and an internal medicine residency at the Animal Medical Center, where she received advanced training in endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and abdominal ultrasound. She then spent two years as a Clinical Instructor at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine and completed her board certification to become a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Cornetta joined the specialty staff at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital as Intern Director in 1998. Also, Dr. Cornetta provides expertise in the form of specialty endoscopy services for our hospitalized patients including placement of enteral feeding tubes. As Intern Director, she is not scheduled for primary appointments, enabling her to provide direct managerial consultation on cases admitted by our emergency service interns. This provides a unique teaching experience to our interns and quality specialty expertise to our valued clients referred through our 24-hour emergency service. Dr. Cornetta has considerable experience in critical care including transfusion medicine and nutritional support. She oversees our intensive care program in our newly remodeled 24-hour facility with a full range of critical care capabilities.

Dr. Moses graduated from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1973. He completed his internship at South Shore Veterinary Associates, and he fulfilled credentialing requirements for board certification in cardiology with training assisted by Angell Memorial Animal Hospital and Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1987, Dr. Moses became board certified in cardiology by the American College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Moses is staffed at VCA Roberts Animal Hospital in Hanover and VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in South Weymouth.

Dr. Bruce A. Walker graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. Following graduation he did an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Darian Animal Hospital in Connecticut. In 1991, Dr. Walker completed a residency in small animal internal medicine at the New York College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University; he then joined the medicine department at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital. Dr. Walker accepts referrals in all aspects of internal medicine and is available for consultation at our Weymouth office and at our clinic on Adams Street in Quincy.

Cindy Lopes

Dr. Cindy Lopes was born and raised on Cape Cod, MA. While growing up on the Cape her interest in veterinary medicine began with a love for horses. She attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she earned her bachelor degree in Animal Science. Some of her fondest memories of undergraduate school include working on a dairy farm in Vermont and witnessing the birth of goats, sheep, and horses at the University’s farm. After graduating from University of Massachusetts she worked as a veterinary technician in Boston and volunteered as a caretaker for the Alaskan Iditarod. Dr. Lopes attended Colorado State University, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and received her doctor of veterinary medicine in 2002. After graduating, Dr. Lopes completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital and has remained on staff as an emergency doctor.

Dr. Loren Cohen graduated from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Following graduation, she completed a year long rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, NJ and then a specialty Dermatology internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Red Bank, NJ. Following this, she completed a residency program in Dermatology at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Cohen joined our hospital in August 2011. She has a special interest in canine and feline allergy and autoimmune diseases.

Dr. David Diamond graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. He completed a one-year rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, and a 3-year residency in surgery at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and Angell Memorial Animal Hospital. Dr. Diamond passed his board certification examination to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1999. He was a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery at Tufts University from 1998 to 1999, and was a staff surgeon at Angell from 1999 to 2001. He joined the staff at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in 2001. Dr. Diamond is certified to perform the tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) procedure for patients with anterior cruciate ligament injuries, and is proficient in all aspects of soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.

Jerry Perry

Dr. Jerry Perry graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. After graduation he did an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of California at Davis followed by a residency in internal medicine at Tufts University and Angell Memorial Animal Hospital. Dr. Perry joined the medicine department at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in 1988. He has extensive experience and a special interest in the areas of oncology, cytopathology, hematology and endocrinology. Dr. Perry coordinates our medical oncology referral service including development of chemotherapy and adjunctive therapy options for patients with a multitude of neoplastic conditions. Dr. Perry is an active member of the Veterinary Cancer Society.

James Lear

Veterinary School: University of Prince Edward Island

Dr. Lear was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in economics and business at University of California, Los Angeles. After a number of years in the business community he refocused his career goals, and attended veterinary school at the University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College. After graduating in 2003 he moved to Cape Cod, where he practiced both general and emergency medicine for nine years before joining the VCA team.

Dr. Lear’s interest in acupuncture and adjunctive therapies began in veterinary school, where he founded a student chapter of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. His goal has been to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western medicine, as he believes that there are indications and limitations for both therapies. He obtained his certification from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2007, and is presently pursuing certification in herbal therapies with the Chi Institute. He has a strong interest in canine rehabilitation, and will work closely with both Dr. Stephanie Kube and Jackie Kelleher, who manage the rehabilitation program at VCA South Shore. Dr. Lear’s future plans also include certification with the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.

Dr. Michelle Politano was born and raised in the Boston area. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Biology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1997. After completing her undergraduate studies, Dr. Politano attended Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her doctorate in 2001. Upon completion of her internship in small animal medicine and surgery here at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital, she was invited to stay on as a general practitioner and senior staff member. Special interests include emergency and internal medicine as well as anesthesia and pain management. During her free time, Dr. Politano enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Richard Harris

Dr. Richard Harris is a native Bostonian. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. From 1969 until 2008 he owned and operated the Braintree Highlands Animal Hospital. In May of 2008 Dr. Harris merged his practice with VCA South Shore Animal Hospital, where he plans to finish his career as a general practitioner in small animal medicine.

Diana Rosenstein

Dr. Diana Rosenstein is a graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University where she also completed both an internship and residency in radiology. In 1995, Dr. Rosenstein joined the faculty at Michigan State University in the Departments of Small and Large Animal Clinical Sciences. She joined our staff in 2007.

Dr. Rosenstein's responsibilities include performing and interpreting studies in radiology, fluoroscopy, ultrasonography (abdomen, non-cardiac thorax, miscellaneous structures, guided fine needle aspirates and core biopsies) and computer tomography.

Susan Morrison

Dr. Susan Morrison is a 1984 graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. Following graduation, Dr. Morrison completed a small animal internship in medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center and a small animal internal medicine residency at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell. During her residency, Dr. Morrison received extensive training in internal medicine, echocardiography and abdominal ultrasound. Since 1988, Dr. Morrison has been on staff at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital doing in-house and referral abdominal ultrasound, echocardiography and internal medicine. Dr. Morrison has been a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine since 1991. Dr. Morrison’ special interests include, but are not limited to, diagnosis and treatment of hepatic, gastrointestinal, endocrine and cardiac disease. She is currently available for consultation and referral appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Sonia Crochik

Dr. Sonia Crochik is a graduate of the University of Sao Paulo. She completed a small animal internship at the University of Sao Paulo and a residency in diagnostic imaging at the University of Illinois. Dr. Crochik is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology and has held faculty positions at the University of Illinois, University of Georgia and Oklahoma State University. She brings a wide range of experiences to compliment our diagnostic imaging service and we are excited she decided to join our staff in the Fall of 2013. Dr. Crochik�s responsibilities include performing and interpreting studies in radiology/fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Dr. Crochik has a special interest in cross-sectional imaging: CT and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. In her spare time, Dr. Crochik enjoys attending performing arts, bird watching, and biking.

Richard Segaloff

Rich Segaloff, DVM, received a B.S. in animal science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2004. In 2009, he received his DVM from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Dr. Segaloff then went on to complete a one-year small-animal rotating internship at New England Animal Medical Center in West Bridgewater, Mass. Dr. Segaloff�s veterinary oncology training continued with a one-year oncology internship at the Animal Cancer Care Clinic of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In 2011, Dr. Segaloff joined the oncology team at VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists as a medical oncology resident. With his roots being in Massachusetts, Dr. Segaloff is returning home to Massachusetts and has joined the team at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital Weymouth to bring Oncology services back to the practice. When not at work, Dr. Segaloff, his wife and their two dogs enjoy hiking and kayaking.

Stephanie Pumphrey

Dr. Pumphrey is a 2008 graduate of Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She also completed a rotating internship and a residency in ophthalmology at Tufts. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2012 and joined our team in 2013. Dr. Pumphrey�s research has focused on changes in the immune system and in connective tissue in canine glaucoma. Her additional professional interests include medical management of ocular inflammatory disease and reconstructive surgery of the eye and eyelids. Kechia Davis

Dr. Davis graduated from the New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University in 1999. She practiced in California for two years following graduation from Cornell, and then completed a rotating medicine and surgery internship at the North Carolina State University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. After her internship she served as a fellow at the Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, followed by a residency in small animal surgery at the North Carolina State University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Dr. Davis became board certified in small animal surgery by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2007. She held an appointment as a lecturer in small animal surgery at the University of Florida-Gainesville and was then a staff surgeon at the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital for five years prior to joining us at VCA South Shore.

Dr. Davis is proficient in all aspects of soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, and has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and minimally invasive osteosynthesis. She is available to see patients who may be candidates for minimally invasive surgeries as well as all traditional soft tissue and orthopedic procedures

Jeanne Ficociello

Dr. Jeanne Ficociello was born in raised north of Boston in Wilmington, MA. She obtained her Bachelor�s Degree in Biology at Harvard University and attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated in 2006 and moved to Los Angeles, where she completed a one-year rotating internship at the VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital and then returned to Boston as a general practioner for one year. In 2008, she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and completed a three-year residency in small animal Internal Medicine at Colorado State University. She also earned her Masters during that time period and studied infectious diseases, including Bartonella, the cause of �cat scratch fever�. Dr. Ficociello is happy to be back in the Boston area and has many professional interests, including renal disease, gastrointestinal disease, liver disease and endocrinology. She also loves endoscopic procedures and laparoscopy. She lives on the south shore with her Labrador retriever, Fenny and her Chihuahua, Grandpa.

Dr. Little graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts in 2005. She later attended University of Tennessee College of Veterinary medicine where she became a Veterinarian in 2009. Dr. Little did a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery internship here at VCA South Shore from 2009 to 2010. Upon completion of her internship, she went on to work as an Emergency Veterinarian at the Veterinary Emergency, Critical Care and Cancer Treatment Center of New Hampshire.

Jacklyn Fullerton

Dr. Fullerton graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 2004. She later attended the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada, graduating as a veterinarian in 2012. Dr. Fullerton completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery internship here at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital from 2012-2013. Upon completion of her internship, she was invited to stay on at our hospital to work as an Emergency Veterinarian. Dr. Fullerton grew up in Upstate New York and has also lived in Vail, Colorado for five years. In her free time, Dr. Fullerton is an avid skier and runner and enjoys spending time outdoors with her pointer mix Skylar.

She later became a Veterninarian in 2011 after graduating from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. From 2011 to 2012 she completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery internship at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center. Prior to joining us at VCA South Shore, she worked as an overnight Emergency Veterinarian at the VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital.
